McEwan's team scrapes through

In the A Road matches we saw Mike McEwan scrape through 7-6 in a nailbitter against Aly Fraser. Fraser led 6-5 going into the last end but, in trying to nick out a Canadian counter, took his own leaving McEwan a difficult draw for the win. In another Scotland v Canada battle, David Edwards won through 4-3 using last stone advantage at the 8th end leaving Laycock to take the B Road.

In one of the shocks of the round the Finish Rantamaki rink stole a two in the third end to build a lead that they never relinquished, running Murdoch out of rocks on the 8th end.

The local rinks of Shaw and Smith went down to Brewster 6-3 and Brad Gushue 6-4 respectively. Both played well but mistakes at one end led to their downfall. Gushue picking up a 4 at the 4th end of his game. Thomas Ulsrud continued his winning way with a 4-2 defeated of the fancied Ewan MacDonald rink and Pescia overcame Neeleman 6-5 whilst Niklas Edin had a 6-3 victory over De Cruz.
